A critical
requirement in the ammonia determination is the transportation of the
sample to the analyzer without any losses. Generally, some kind of
sample conditioning equipment is used. However, all these processes can
result in indeterminate sample losses. As in any extractive technique
it is best to transport the sample with heat traced sample lines.
Dilution at the stack does not prevent sample losses.
The minimum detection limit prior to dilution is 0.07 ppm. The actual
minimum detection limit within a sample after dilution depends upon the
dilution ratio but is typically down to 0.3 ppm with a 1:5 dilution.
This configuration allows the direct analysis of ammonia in samples
containing high levels of CO
2 and moisture,
commonly present in any
combustion process. The interference of CO
2 in
the traditional NDIR
ammonia measurements is eliminated by dilution and the cross
compensation feature available within the 1312 (1314).
